The Foundation for University Hospital has received a donation of more than $2.25 million to support the Newark hospital’s coronavirus response, it announced Wednesday.
The anonymous corporate donor asked the foundation for a list of priorities to best help the hospital prepare for a surge in COVID-19 patients, then contributed $2,271,295 to the foundation to help check items off the list.
“We are incredibly grateful for this benefactor’s willingness to step up during this critical time,” University Hospital CEO and President Shereef Elnahal said in a prepared statement. “I won’t mince words: This donation of critical resources will save lives.”
The funds will support additional resources in the emergency department and intensive care units, including ventilators, beds, telehealth capabilities, sanitization resources and more.
“I am so proud of the work our team is doing at University Hospital,” Elnahal said. “We are preparing for a large surge of COVID-19 patients, and every extra resource will help us continue to protect lives.”
