Bergen Community College awarded inaugural grant from the Infiniti Equity Fund

Grant will support Environmental Justice and Sustainability Program

Bergen Community College‘s Environmental Justice and Sustainability Program will be the recipient of the Infiniti Equity Fund‘s $10,000 inaugural grant, according to a Tuesday announcement.

The grant will support an initial cohort of students and educational programs centered around environmental and energy justice, culminating in students receiving additional energy justice and sustainability certifications as Infiniti Scholars.

“The support of partners like Infiniti Energy and their Infiniti Equity Fund, who value the creation of a stronger, more equitable energy workforce, is important in providing BCC students with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about environmental justice and workforce equity,” said Luis De Abreu, director of the STEM program at BCC. “BCC looks forward to working with IEF in this powerful partnership.”

“The responses to the initial IEF request for grant submittals made the award of this grant a tough decision. Yet, all on the team felt that BCC’s program best exemplified the grant criteria to advance environmental justice through educational initiatives,” noted Liz Conroy, general counsel for Infiniti Energy. “We look forward to seeing what these students accomplish.”

The fund supports and empowers organizations and communities to address environmental justice, support workforce development and tackle organizational obstacles to justly and equitably grow the nation’s renewable energy industry. Through the EJSP, run by the STEM program at BCC, the Infiniti Equity Fund will help students combine STEM with a program focused on sustainability and a more equitable energy future.

The Infiniti Equity Fund encourages New Jersey nonprofits working to address environmental justice and support equitable renewable energy workforce development to visit infinitiequityfund.org and sign up for the IEF mail list to receive announcements on future grants.
