Introducing ACG N.J.’s 2022 Corporate Growth Award honoree

An interview with Thomas Jacob, CEO, Blue Sea Products

Conducted by Sally Glick, ACG New Jersey, and principal of the firm and chief growth strategist, SobelCo.

Did you know that most successful companies are always ready to drive or embrace change?

At Blue Sea Products, Thomas Jacob was ready early on to embrace innovation when COVID-19 changed the food service/retail landscape. As a commodity business that previously focused on the shrimp market (which represented 75% of its inventory), Jacob was closely watching the landscape and recognized that, to survive, the company would have to immediately respond to the unprecedented spike in the retail market, and this would require that it broaden its product offerings.

First, it quickly expanded its product line, and, secondly, it became a major player in the food services space — connecting the major components of retail (supermarkets, distributors, restaurants, cruise lines) with the established distribution companies. This two-pronged effort enabled the company to purchase food service products and sell to retail customers at a savings. The ability to offer deep discounts combined with a more robust menu, including crab, lobster, scallops, calamari and fin fish, is what immediately set Blue Sea Products apart and established it as a leading provider in the sector.

As the pandemic struck, catching so many in the food and beverage sector off-guard, flat-footed and unprepared, Jacob’s ability as an innovative leader who saw an opportunity and moved swiftly was essential to his company’s long-term success.

If you would like to know more about Blue Sea Products’ success and Thomas Jacob’s leadership, come learn more about how and why they are being recognized as ACG New Jersey’s Corporate Growth Award honoree.
