Three schools from New Jersey made Money Magazine’s list of the Best Colleges for engineering majors.
The rankings, which were released last week, had Princeton University at No. 7, New Jersey Institute of Technology at No. 10 and Stevens Institute of Technology at No. 16.
Many publications create “best” lists for colleges. Money Magazine said its list is based heavily on the median salaries of recent alumni with engineering degrees, as well as the number and share of recent graduates earning bachelor’s degrees in engineering.
All three schools also fared well in the magazine’s ranking of top overall schools in the Northeast, with Princeton coming in at No. 2, followed by NJIT at No. 13 and Stevens at No. 23.
NJIT officials were particularly proud of their engineering school ranking.
NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering is the largest and oldest academic school at the university, offering rigorous academics and hands-on experiences through research, design projects, internships and cooperative education opportunities.
Those experiences are heightened by a 21,000-square-foot Makerspace, which features state-of-the-art machinery and equipment for fabrication and prototyping. NCE has also recently added labs for microfabrication, motion capture and industrial and manufacturing engineering.
“Our Top 10 national ranking from Money reflects significant intentional investment in hiring first-rate faculty, building and maintaining world-class research facilities and attracting the most promising and brilliant students,” Dean Moshe Kam said. “We are committed to further expanding our presence in key research areas that support public health, civic infrastructure, protection of the environment and sustainable development.”
Georgia Tech was ranked No. 1 in the list of engineering schools, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Colorado School of Mines.
