N.J. companies score well for diversity on DiversityInc’s Top 50 and specialty lists

DiversityInc has come out with its 2018 Top 50 Companies for Diversity, and the list is filled with New Jersey companies — including one in the top spot.

The Princeton-based media company celebrated the Top 50, noteworthy companies, specialty lists and the new Hall of Fame at an event earlier this week in New York.

There, New Brunswick-based Johnson & Johnson was named the No. 1 company for diversity overall.

Other companies with their world or U.S. headquarters in New Jersey that made the Top 50 included:

5. ADP (Roseland)
11. Prudential Financial (Newark)
17. BASF (Florham Park)
34. TD Bank (Cherry Hill)
42. Sanofi (Bridgewater)

Whippany-based Bayer U.S. and Secaucus-based Quest Diagnostics were among the “noteworthy companies,” which the publication said have the potential to make the Top 50 someday.

Other companies in the Top 50 that have a major presence in New Jersey included:

7. Comcast NBCUniversal
8. KPMG
9. Accenture
14. Wells Fargo
32. Exelon

Five past No. 1 companies became the first inductees into the DiversityInc Top 50 Hall of Fame: EY, Kaiser Permanente, Novartis, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Sodexo.

The specialty lists, too, were filled with New Jersey companies — some making the grade on several lists. They included:

  • ADP: No. 9 on Top Companies for People with Disabilities and Top Companies for Executive Women, No. 10 on Top Companies for Recruitment, No. 11 on Top Companies for Supplier Diversity, No. 13 on Top Companies for Veterans, No. 15 on Top Companies for Diversity Councils, and on the unranked Top Companies for LGBT Employees.
  • BASF: No. 11 on Top Companies for Recruitment, No. 14 on Top Companies for Veterans and on the unranked Top Companies for LGBT Employees.
  • Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Newark): No. 5 on Top Regional Companies.
  • J&J: No. 2 on Top Companies for Mentoring, No. 3 on Top Companies for Employee Resource Groups, No. 4 on Top Companies for Recruitment and Top Companies for Executive Women, No. 6 on Top Companies for Diversity Councils, No. 12 on Top Companies for Supplier Diversity, and on the unranked Top Companies for LGBT Employees.
  • Prudential: No. 11 on Top Companies for People with Disabilities and No. 18 on Top Companies for Veterans.
  • TD Bank: No. 12 on Top Companies for People with Disabilities and on the unranked Top Companies for LGBT Employees.
