Global dairy company Dutch Royal FrieslandCampina N.V., which has its U.S. headquarters in Paramus, has acquired Iselin-based importer Jana Foods to strengthen its position in the American market, it announced Wednesday.
FrieslandCampina said in a news release that it acquired Jana, which imports and markets FrieslandCampina’s Dutch cheese, including the Kroon, A Dutch Masterpiece and Gavo Azul brands, as well as cheeses from the U.K., Denmark, Australia and elsewhere.
“This acquisition supports our strategy of investing for growth,” Roel van Neerbos, president of FrieslandCampina Consumer Dairy, said in a prepared statement. “This investment is in line with our strategy to grow our cheese business and strengthens our position in the Americas. This deal will allow us to offer consumers a wider portfolio of innovative products for the U.S. market.”
Jana will be integrated into FrieslandCampina’s Consumer Dairy U.S.A. business, the company said. Former owner and CEO Dan Lynch will serve as FrieslandCampina’s vice president-imports and senior commercial adviser.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
