Englewood Health EMS Tour Chief, Sean Conboy, named 2024 New Jersey Paramedic of the Year

Englewood Health’s Emergency Medical Services tour chief, Sean Conboy, of Dumont, was named the 2024 Paramedic of the Year by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services.

The award was presented at the National Conference on EMS held in Atlantic City, during an award ceremony that celebrated individuals and agencies that have demonstrated extraordinary dedication and achievement in the field of EMS.

Englewood Health EMS is one of Bergen County’s largest and most comprehensive hospital-based ambulance systems, serving 45 communities with top-quality emergency care. Responding to over 20,000 calls annually, it is one of only three New Jersey agencies accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services for excellence in patient care.

As a tour chief, Conboy leads the ambulance team during his shift, managing medical decisions, task assignments, communication with dispatch and hospitals, scene operations, and hospital transfers. He ensures paramedics and EMTs receive ongoing training, meet quality standards, and work effectively as a team to provide exceptional care.

The New Jersey EMS Awards honor paramedics for exceptional leadership and contributions to patient care, EMS access, disaster preparedness, and education. Out of 11 nominees statewide, Conboy was named 2024 Paramedic of the Year by a panel of judges.

At the award ceremony, the New Jersey Office of EMS stated that Conboy was chosen for “his commitment to exemplary patient care, and for consistently being there not only for his staff, but for the profession as a whole. As tour chief, his meticulous attention to detail ensures that the agency operates seamlessly, while also prioritizing the well-being of his staff and their families. We proudly recognize Sean Conboy (as 2024 Paramedic of the Year) for his outstanding contributions to EMS.”

“Sean Conboy is a leader and true advocate for patients,” Richard Sposa, MA, NRP, MICP, director of EMS/emergency preparedness at Englewood Health said. “His unwavering dedication to our patients and commitment to always doing the right thing by those in our care, and his team, are hallmarks of his career. This award recognizes what we at Englewood Health have always known, that Sean’s contributions strengthen our team, elevate the care we provide, and inspire all of us to strive for excellence in everything we do.”

“I’ve been a paramedic for over 25 years,” Conboy said. “It is a tremendous honor to be recognized as the 2024 Paramedic of the Year among so many worthy peers. I started as a volunteer EMT, and continued to work full time, while raising my family, and going to paramedic school. Now in a supervisory role as tour chief at Englewood Health, my career has been very gratifying, and I am blessed to be able to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives every day.”
