Marquis Health Consulting Services, based out of Brick, said March 5 that Joseph DeMattos was named as senior vice president of public affairs.
DeMattos is a widely respected government relations, health care policy and communication professional who has a history of advancing critical issues for the long-term care sector and the aging population.
Marquis supports skilled nursing centers and senior living communities in eight states along the Eastern Seaboard. In his new position, DeMattos is leading stakeholder engagement to advance the organization’s mission, reputation and influence across the post-acute, long-term care and senior living landscape. He advises executive leadership on public affairs and policy, external engagement, communications and leadership.
DeMattos works closely with industry associations, advocacy organizations and government and community leaders to drive innovation, strengthen outcomes and elevate care in the communities Marquis serves.
DeMattos previously served as president and CEO of the Health Facilities Association of Maryland, at one time the state’s largest and oldest long-term care association. He was also senior state director of AARP Maryland and held national AARP leadership roles supporting campaigns for Medicare Prescription Drug and Social Security.

DeMattos’ experience spans health care, aging services, non-profit leadership, private enterprise and government also include senior public service roles within Hawaii state government, and a career in crisis communications with a leading public relations firm in Hawaii. DeMattos serves as a visiting professor at the Erickson School of Management of Aging Services at University of Maryland Baltimore County.
