3 from N.J. land on Accounting Today’s annual Top 100 Firms list

Accounting Today recently announced its 2023 Top 100 Firms list, along with its Regional Leaders rankings. This recognition program, which has been published for almost 30 years, reveals which public accounting firms have experienced substantial growth in 2022.

Three firms headquartered in New Jersey made the list: Princeton-based Withum (No. 22), Parsippany-based Sax LLP (No. 68) and Florham Park-based Wiss & Co. (No. 90).

“Despite staffing shortages, heightened competition and uncertain economic conditions, firms have displayed resilience by making strategic decisions that have paid off,” Daniel Hood, editor-in-chief of Accounting Today, said.

The leading firms from the list ranked by net revenue management are:

Deloitte: $27.9 billion;
PwC: $20.7 billion;
Ernst & Young: $19.1 billion;
KPMG: $11.4 billion;
RSM US: $3.6 billion;
BDO USA: $2.5 billion;
Grant Thornton: $2.3 billion;
CLA: $1.7 billion;
Forvis: $1.5 billion;
Baker Tilly: $1.4 billion.

The Top 100 Firms list also includes Regional Leaders rankings that represent the biggest firms in 10 specific sections of the U.S., including New England, the Great Lakes, the Gulf Coast and the Midwest. Each region experienced an average firm growth rate that ranged from 10.52% to 20.5%.

Parsippany-based Sax LLP leaped 19 spots from last year, moving from No. 83 to No. 68. Sax was also named a Regional Leader as the No. 13 mid-Atlantic firm, the No. 6 fastest-growing firm in the country, a “Leader in Tax” and a “Pacesetter in Growth.”

“I am elated that we have been able to achieve such tremendous growth on a national and regional level and have exceeded our expectations of being a Top 75 firm by 2023,” Joseph Damiano, CEO and managing partner, said. “To be recognized in this way among so many of our peers is a testament to our ability to adapt to the pace of change facing our industry, our dedication to knowledge and expertise, and our commitment to serving our clients as their No. 1 adviser. I look forward to witnessing what our firm can achieve in 2023 and beyond.”

Accounting Today obtains its data by conducting an annual nationwide survey of national and regional accounting firms. Their rankings offer in-depth benchmarking data, as well as strategies and advice from the most successful firms. The 2023 rankings are based on 2022 net revenue.
