Rider University has signed a three-year agreement with the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra that will allow the GPYO to establish a home base on its historic Westminster Choir College campus for the rehearsal, training and administrative use beginning with the 2023-2024 season.
The campus, located in the heart of downtown Princeton, is not only centrally located for young area musicians; it also offers state-of-the-art facilities that will support the organization’s rapid growth and enable students to advance their skills and craft. It expands on a previous agreement between the two that increases opportunities for students to learn and perform music.
The GPYO presence at WCC campus will be centered in the world-class facilities of the Cullen Center, including Hillman Hall, The Robert Annis Playhouse, multiple rehearsal rooms and office space in historic Williamson Hall. The state-of-the-art rehearsal space in Cullen Center will be used by GPYO’s five ensembles and will provide opportunities for additional programming such as workshops, Master Classes and performances.
“In order for the GPYO to continue its growth trajectory, we need a venue that affords our students and artistic team the comfort and accommodations to truly excel at their art,” GPYO Executive Director Joe Capone said.
“The WCC campus is perfect on many levels. It is designed with musicianship and performance in mind, giving our students ample space to grow both physically and musically.”
The GPYO has been a home for hundreds of student musicians for over 60 years. The multi-year arrangement enables the orchestra to continue its illustrious 63-year mission of excellence in music education and performance for young people.
