Gov. Murphy attends traditional NJ National Guard military review at its Sea Girt headquarters

Gov. Phil Murphy attended the annual New Jersey National Guard Military Review in Sea Girt on Oct. 6.

On Sunday, October 6, Governor Phil Murphy attended the annual New Jersey National Guard Military Review in Sea Girt escorted by Col. Yvonne L. Mays, the Acting Adjutant General of New Jersey.

 

The National Guard Training Center (NGTC) sits on 168 acres is Sea Girt and provides training and instruction to New Jersey Citizen Soldiers, Airmen, and law enforcement professionals.

 

 

This review is a tradition that dates back 130 years and allows the governor as commander-in-chief to review and salute the Soldiers and Airmen of the New Jersey National Guard.

Governor Murphy addresses the national guard troops. New Jersey’s National Guard has been deployed worldwide to locations such as Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, and Afghanistan. It has also deployed within the U.S. to help disaster recovery efforts in Texas, Puerto Rico, New Orleans and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

 

 

On June 27, Governor Murphy announced his intent to nominate Colonel Mays to be the Adjutant General of New Jersey and commander of the more than 8,400 soldiers and airmen in the New Jersey National Guard. She is also currently Acting Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs pending action by the New Jersey Senate.
