Innovative elder care firm wins prize at TechLaunch’s BullPen

TechLaunch‘s BullPen, a startup pitch series, announced the winners of its startup pitch competition Thursday at Monmouth University.

The event featured technology-oriented startups that pitched their products to an audience made up of New Jersey’s business community, entrepreneurs and students.

After the pitches, which were followed by both audience and panel question-and-answer sessions, votes were tallied to identify the winner in the Investor Panel and Audience Favorite categories.

“TechLaunch BullPen is a value-added event for our students and university community, demonstrating what startups must develop to capture the interest of investors.  The event is also a high quality networking opportunity for energetic entrepreneurs and businesses serving the community,” Susan Gupta, Monmouth University’s MBA director, said.

Caregiver Smart Solutions won the top prize (Investor Panel winner, $20,000) with its presentation on the market for health and safety monitoring solutions targeted to adult children and caregivers of the Baby Boomer population.

“The BullPen showcases startups like us who want to make a difference in the world. As our loved ones show an increased desire to age in place this puts stress and challenges on their adult children who provide care. With the support of TechLaunch we look forward to improving the lives of these caregivers as they support their aging loved ones,” Ryan Herd, CSS founder and CEO, said.

The other pitches included:

  • Tendo Technologies (winner of the Audience Favorite award) pitched its patent-pending flow sensors and controllers for industries that require accurate control of fluids.
  • Road2College, which helps families manage college financial planning.
  • MedEd (representing the Monmouth University undergraduate student slot) presented its software app that will improve the accuracy and quality of paper evaluations that track the progress of medical residents’ training in real time.

“It’s quite personally and professionally gratifying to see so many organizations and individuals dedicate their time and expertise to help the next generation of technology-oriented entrepreneurs. My thanks go out to Monmouth University and our exceptional team of mentors and panelists. The Garden State continues to grow every time we cultivate this exciting terrain,” Mario Casabona, TechLaunch founder, said.

The BullPen was co-hosted by Upstart Garden and Jersey Shore Tech. The event was also sponsored by Gibbons LawND4 AdvisoryWithumGearhart Law and Casabona Ventures.
