Profeta named to board of Newark Beth, Children’s Hospital of N.J.

For Paul Profeta, the appointment to the board of trustees for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey was personal.

Profeta, well-known in the state as an entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist, recalls how doctors at Newark Beth helped save his father, years ago.

“Newark Beth Israel saved my father’s life,” he said. “Dr. Victor Parsonnet performed the quadruple bypass that he needed to prepare for an aneurysm repair, and Dr. Donald K. Brief performed the emergency life-saving surgery he needed to repair his aneurysm.

“The physicians, nurses and medical staff at Newark Beth Israel are doing incredible work. Clearly, Newark Beth Israel is an institution that is close to my heart.”

He’ll now serve on the board.

Newark Beth CEO Darrell Terry said he will be happy to have Profeta’s insights.

“It is a tremendous honor to welcome Paul V. Profeta to our board of trustees,” he said. “Over the years, he has improved the lives of countless Newark residents by advancing business, education and entrepreneurship in this city.

“As an anchor institution, we look forward to working with Paul to continue to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.”

Board Chair Frank Giantomasi welcomed Profeta, too.

“Paul V. Profeta’s lifetime of experience is well-aligned with our mission of delivering world-class patient care while addressing the social determinants of health that impact Newark residents,” he said. “We are fortunate to have him on the board.”

Profeta is a recognized leader and noted philanthropist among New Jersey’s leading real estate attorneys.

In 1976, he launched Paul V. Profeta & Associates Inc., a real estate investment company engaged in procuring value-added investment properties and net-leased properties across the country. He also created several institutions dedicated to supporting entrepreneurship among minority groups in Newark, including the Profeta Urban Investment Foundation at Rutgers School of Business, the Center for Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development program, or CUEED, at Rutgers School of Business, and the Paul V. Profeta Foundation Inc.

Profeta has championed the academic study of real estate through the Profeta Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fellowship Program and the Profeta Real Estate Technology, Design and Innovation Center at the Martin Tuchman School of Management at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

He is also passionate about delivering wholesome, nutrient-dense organic food to the public, which is why he created Profeta Farms, a 1,200-acre enterprise in Hunterdon County.

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey are both RWJBarnabas Health facilities.
