Rider University’s Norm Brodsky Business Concept Competition is back for 2023, once again inviting high school students to compete for the chance to win a full, four-year tuition scholarship.
Divided into two divisions, the competition celebrates innovative entrepreneurship by challenging students to present a unique business idea to be pitched to a panel of judges.
Seniors will compete for the full scholarship grand prize, while juniors and sophomores will compete for several cash prizes and the chance to be automatically entered into the senior competition when eligible.
To participate, students must submit a 400-word description of their product or service at rider.edu/BrodskyCompetition by 11:59 p.m. Nov. 6. High school seniors must also apply by the university’s early action deadline of Nov. 15.
“Every year, we are astonished by the ingenuity and dedication of our applicants,” Lora Hudicka, director of Rider’s Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, said. “As a university, we relish the opportunity to foster that potential at a collegiate level and look forward to watching the promising young entrepreneurs develop into confident business leaders of tomorrow.”
Upon review of all entries, the Top 5 finalists from each group will be selected to present in a live, “Shark Tank”-inspired finale on Jan. 28, 2023, with an awards banquet immediately following.
Last year’s winner, Cait Hopkinson, presented her idea, AIR Fried & Frosted, as a healthier alternative to the traditionally oil-fried doughnut. She is currently enrolled at Rider as an accounting major seeking a Bachelor of Science in business administration.
The competition is sponsored by Norm Brodsky of the Class of 1964 and his wife, Elaine Brodsky. Norm Brodsky is a longtime entrepreneur and the namesake of Rider’s Norm Brodsky College of Business. He is the founder of eight successful businesses and author of the popular Street Smarts column in Inc. Magazine as well as the book “The Knack: How Street Smart Entrepreneurs Learn How to Handle Whatever Comes Up.”
