Q&A: A quick look at the Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business at William Paterson University

What areas or disciplines does your business school specialize in?

Financial Planning and Wealth Management (B.S.): We have a 100% job placement rate for graduates. Our students have won national competitions repeatedly, including the National Industry Issues Competition and Financial Planning Association Challenge.

Professional Sales (B.S.): We offered the first major in professional sales at any institution accredited by AACSB International. We have 100% job placement rates for graduates, who benefit from the university’s Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales. The institute’s offerings include a high-tech behavioral learning lab, a highly regarded National Sales Boot Camp and National Sales Competition.

Applied Business Analytics (B.S.): This major empowers students to analyze and interpret data, and communicate insights gleaned to inform decisions and solve problems.

What are three unique classes at the school?

Engagement: All majors complete a professional enrichment program to enhance their career readiness upon graduation. Activities include professional development workshops at the Pesce Family Mentoring Institute and completing an internship.

Values: All students complete a Values, Ethics, and Sustainability class to grow as socially responsible business professionals.

Persuasion/negotiation: All MBA students are prepared for managerial roles in a required course titled Influence, Persuasion and Negotiation Strategy, which prepares them to influence others, manage conflict and negotiate agreements in a wide range of business scenarios.

What is one aspect of your business department that you feel makes it stand out?

We meet students where they are and intentionally work with them to get them ready to meet or exceed employers’ expectations.
