Connell Foley announces major expansion of Taxation and Estate Planning Group

4 attorneys to become partners (Goldhirsch, Miano, Mirone and Spalding) while veteran Holland joins as of counsel

Mary Goldhirsch, Brittany Miano, Michael Mirone and Karin Spalding have been promoted to partner at Connell Foley, where they will work in the firm’s expanding Taxation and Estate Planning Group.

They will be joined by Sara Jane Holland, a seasoned tax lawyer with significant transactional tax law experience that will augment the group’s scope of services, who will join the firm as of counsel.

Anthony Vitiello of Connell Foley.

Group Chair Anthony Vitiello said the attorneys will allow the group to continue to offer a broad range of top-notch services and are consistent with the team’s national reputation for excellence in the wealth preservation, tax, trust and estate planning space.

“With Sara’s arrival and the recent promotions, our Tax and Estate Planning Team has become one of the most significant in the region,” he said. “Our attorneys collaborate with lawyers across the firm, working with various practice groups, including corporate, real estate and litigation. With our strong team and the backing of an interdisciplinary firm, we are well-equipped to meet the increasing demand for our top-notch tax and estate services.”

Vitiello, who founded the group and has been with Connell Foley since 1999, is a highly respected thought leader in the estate planning space. Under his leadership, the Taxation and Estate Planning practice has grown to 11 dedicated attorneys and has become a nationally recognized provider of exceptional wealth preservation services.

Focusing on estates ranging from $20 million to over $1 billion, Vitiello provides counsel on significant tax issues for ultrahigh net worth individuals and families, as well as their foundations, closely held corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies. He also has a substantial practice in gift, estate and income tax audits and controversies.

Spalding, Goldhirsch and Miano focus on the administration of estates and trusts, counseling fiduciaries on their role as executor, administrator or trustee.

Mirone focuses on sophisticated estate and gift tax planning, business succession planning and multigenerational wealth transfers. He joins Vitello and Partners Dan Kessler and Jason Falk on the estate, gift and trust planning side of the group.

Holland regularly counsels for-profit and nonprofit clients on tax matters resulting from day-to-day business operations, significant transactions such as mergers & acquisitions and partnership formation. She advises business owners on pre-liquidity tax structuring and business succession planning.
