Wilson, transformational CEO, to retire as head of Delta Dental N.J./Conn. at end of year

Dennis Wilson, a transformative leader who helped Delta Dental of New Jersey and Connecticut expand its influence well beyond dental insurance, announced Thursday that he is retiring at the end of the year.

Wilson will be succeeded by Paul Di Maio, the company’s current general counsel and chief administrative officer.

Wilson, who joined DDNJCT as CEO in 2013, had helped the company achieve impressive growth while becoming substantially more outwardly focused.

Wilson created and launched a new corporate social responsibility program in his first year at the company, engaging with business, community and charitable organizations at the board and executive team level throughout New Jersey and Connecticut. He also launched crucial strategic company initiatives, including a focus on individual and small group sales, establishing DDCT as a separate entity and adding of vision insurance to the DDNJCT portfolio.

Wilson also initiated the company’s unique small business and individual products, as well as the first Special Health Care Needs program in the market in support of individuals and families with disabilities.

Wilson, as humble as they come, said serving has been an honor.

“Leading DDNJCT has been a true privilege, and I am thankful for the hard work and cooperation of the board and our associates in positioning the company for growth and continued success into the future,” he said. “I also am proud of how our board, senior leadership and associates have enthusiastically embraced the company’s efforts to engage in the community and sincerely participate in supporting causes and activities in meaningful ways.”

Wilson’s desire to impact the state went beyond Delta Dental. He serves on the Executive Committee of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce. He was a past chairman of the Community Foundation of New Jersey and serves on the board of Atlantic Health Care — among other organizations.

Wilson will continue to be a part of the Delta Dental organization moving forward; he will serve as a special adviser through June 30, 2025.
