RWJBarnabas Health’s Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center hosted its Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month event yesterday featuring a 20-foot-long inflatable replica of the human colon. The “Strollin’ Through the Colon” event was open to the public, and it’s one way to encourage education and prevention of colon cancer.
Attendees traveled through the interactive colon, which can help to lessen the fear of colonoscopy by showing the benefits of early detection and polyp removal, significantly improving survival for the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S.
Some of those who took part include Raquel Wagman, MD, radiation oncologist; Dr. Mark E. Gilder, colon and rectal surgeon; Dr. Matthew Askin, gastroenterologist, and Dr. Sirish Dharmapuri, medical oncologist.
The event took place at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Cooperman Family Pavilion Lobby, 94 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston.
